European Summer programmes in NZ high schools

Some of the High Schools in New Zealand offer Northern hemisphere summer programmes including Homestay and often with extra activities. The Northern hemispheres summer of course means winter in new Zealand. However, the New Zealand winter, especially on the North Island is quite mild.

Homestay is accommodation with a selected, and by the New Zealand government checked, host family. During weekdays 2 meals, and in the weekend 3 meals are included.

Otaki College (Otaki)
Outdoor education summer programme in July and August

School fee, Homestay and Medical Insurance for 7 weeks: NZ$ 3,450 (2015 price)

Extra activities: Students will take part in particular outdoor activities, overnight camps or expeditions. Theory is combined with the practical, like risk management, map and compass reading. Be part of one of the 5 day class trips (at no extra cost)

Gisborne Boys' High School (Gisborne)

July - August programme with golf.

School fee, Homestay and Medical Insurance for 7 weeks: 4,500 NZ$ (2014 price)

The student can become a member of the local Golf Club (fee 80 NZ$ for under 17) and get lessons from a Golf Pro (40 NZ$ per half hour). There are many eminent golf courses on the east coast of New Zealand.


Cambridge High School (Cambridge)
Summer Holiday (July – Aug) programme with lots of extra’s

School fee, Uniform, Homestay and Medical Insurance for 7 weeks: 4,300 NZ$ (2015 price)

Choice of 33 sports (e.g. Adventure Racing, Cheerleading, Equestrian, Lacrosse, Motocross, Shooting, and Yachting). Music groups include a concert band, choirs, jazz band and rock groups (free tuition in a range of instruments), Drama and Dance activities, Theatre sports, Shakespearean competitions.

New Zealand School System (Secondary Schools)
 
13-15 years Form 3 and 4 (Years 9 and 10)
15-16 years Form 5 (Year 11)
16-17 years Form 6 (Year 12)
17-18 years Form 7 (Year 13)
 
There are four terms per year, divided into 10 weeks each. The school year starts in February and there are two weeks of holidays in April, June and September, with the summer holidays in December and January.

Fiordland College (Te Anau)
Outdoor education summer programme in July and August

School fee, Homestay and Medical Insurance for 7 weeks: 4,100 NZ$ (2015 price)

Extra activities at extra cost: winter camp - skiing, snow boarding, cross country skiing, visiting and staying in a Maori Marae, visiting by boat the Glow Worm Caves, day trips to Milford or Doubtful Sounds.

Pakuranga College (Half Moon Bay)
Summer Programme (July - September) 7 weeks programme (8 weeks homestay) with Scuba Diving, Outdoor Education and  Creative Technology and Media Studies.

Rodney College (Wellsford)
Summer programme (July - August) 7 weeks programme, with home stay on
farms or lifestyle blocks with many home stays providing facilities and horses for horse riding as part of your Kiwi experience. Most families have a range of animals or pets.

School fee, Home/Farmstay and Medical Insurance for 7 weeks: 4,950 NZ$ (2015 price)

Wellington East Girls’ College (Wellington)
Summer Holiday (July – Aug) 7 weeks programme with 2 weeks of extra English language at a private English Language institute in Wellington.

School fee, English training + ESOL, Homestay and Insurance for 7 weeks: 4,550 NZ$ (2015 price)

Each week you will visit a local place of interest, learning about our flora and fauna, our history and experiencing Kiwi leisure activities, participating in sports we enjoy.

Kerikeri High School (Kerikeri)
7 weeks summer programme and professional sailing training in their sailing academy

School fee, Sailing Academy fee, Homestay and Medical Insurance for 7 weeks: 4,950 NZ$ (2015 price)

Kerikeri High School has a strong sailing reputation winning several national and international titles. Also learn navigation, racing tactics and rope work.

Nelson College (Boys) (Nelson)
10 weeks summer programme with extra activities: 29 July – 27 September 2013

School fee, Uniform, Homestay and Medical Insurance for 7 weeks: 5,200 NZ$ (2015 price)

Extra activities at extra cost: 30 different sports, many performing arts and cultural options. Private music tuition, jazz band, brass band and concert band.
