Otaki College in New Zealand offers all students Outdoor Education

Otaki College offers all students Outdoor Education as an optional subject. Skills and knowledge are taught in school and then practical activities take place using the natural, outdoors resources. These activities include kayaking, rock climbing, tramping, camping, water safety, snow skills and challenge ropes.

Theory is taught which compliments the practical activities, e.g. risk management, map and compass reading, food, first aid, leadership and responsibility. The activities are taught and supervised by experienced and qualified outdoor teachers and instructors.

Please note, the cost of overnight camps needs to be paid by the student.

Extra's: For instance Year 13 Outdoor Education (full year course)
Term 1 Kayaking and river safety plus 5 day sea kayaking trip
Term 2 Tramping plus 3 day survival tramp (May) NZ$ 150 and 4 day bush tramp (June)
Term 3&4 Rock climbing, snow skills and tramping plus 3 day alpine trip (September) and 5 day rock climbing trip (November)

Tuition fees
Otaki College is a small high school with very affordable tuition fees: (2021 prices) NZ$ 12,000 for four terms (one academic year) or NZ$ 3,000 per term. Short stay is also possible: NZ$ 350 per week tuition fee + NZ$ 265 homestay incl three meals per day (short stays less than 9 weeks)
